Skills and know-how

The activities of CEP are all based in the plastic industry, a relatively young sector, which grew up quickly within the last 50 years.
Materials of the third millennium, plastics are partners of every major technological challenge and progress of our time.

Plastic

CEP essentially uses “thermoplastic” (polystyrene and polypropylene), renowned for being rigid and solid at room temperature, to soften as its temperature increases and to become liquid at around 250°C. Polystyrene and polypropylene do not release any toxic gas at room temperature and can be easily recycled on melting.

What is an injection mould?

An injection mould is a type of giant “waffle iron” made up of two sections which fit together. The hot and liquid plastic runs into the channels of the mould to give a shape to the product. All our moulds are designed on site in 3D and then manufactured by experts.

Plastic injection

The injection press used consists of an open-ended screw and a frame supporting the two sections of the mould. The frame opens and closes to allow the two sections of the mould to open and close successively.
The plastic pellets are introduced into the open-ended screw and heated to 250°C. When it becomes liquid the plastic is injected under high pressure into the closed mould, filling all the gaps. The mould cools the plastic down to room temperature. It then opens up, releases the plastic product which can be removed and packed. The injection process alone produces perfectly formed products of all shapes and sizes which can weigh between a few grams (plastic tube tops for example) to several kilograms (car bumpers).
The principal sectors using this technology comprise of: car, electronic, robotic, air and medical industries...

Rheology

Rheology (in Greek, rhein : to flow), is the science of flowing liquid material. It is the correct structure of liquid plastic flowing properties which enables the creation of very precise plastic distribution, optimizing quality standards (finish and solidity) and manufacturing constraints.

Coulouring

The raw materials for the plastics we use are colourless and slightly opaque. Therefore, colouring pellets are used to give the products a colour. They are added to the original pellets just before the injection (at a ratio of around 2 to 3 percent).
CEP evolves with changing times and fashions by creating office accessories that allow people to personalize and decorate their own office.

For instance :

  • The "Ice" colours: highlight the edges of the products with colour creating a sharp contrast
  • The "Happy" colours: bring energy and a stimulating finish.

New product development

We always begin with consumer surveys (at customers homes or at the office) in order to determine new consumer needs. Our design studios invent new products, new shapes and new uses. We then create a prototype (often made from resin) of the new product, which is tested intensively to ensure it totally satisfies customer requirements and to guarantee an ergonomic design with strength and safety a priority. When the prototype is finished, we create the injection mould according to the shape of the prototype and reproduce the product in commercial quantities.
